Afghan Civilian Massacre Sparks Public Fury

What can I even say about this? It’s like, I can’t even collect enough words together to express how much anger/sadness/confusion I feel over this event.

We are becoming the same people our US Gov’t has told us we need to fight against.

I say ‘we’, because, like it or not, the people in our Government and Military represent our country. Despite the fact that I would never personally kill innocent people, someone wearing Our flag has, and I feel ashamed to be an American right now.

I recognize that no matter how sad/angry/confused/ I feel over this, there are people who feel what I, feel but worse because they experience(d) this first hand. I have no sympathy for this soldier. If the US wants to try him, or if we hand him over the the Afghan Government (realistically, it’ll never happen…), I don’t care what his fate is. Normally, I’m the bleeding heart, I’m the one who always says, ‘Let him spend his life in prison!’, ‘Capital Punishment is wrong!’, but right now, I really couldn’t give one single fuck about what happens to this guy. I don’t believe in ‘an eye for an eye’, but, I wouldn’t bat an eyelash if they executed him. You see, I also believe that, ‘For every action, there is an opposite, yet equal reaction.’

Sixteen people: sons, daughters, wives, mothers… gone. Fuck anyone who tries to blame his behavior on PTSD, or any other psychological bullshit. War is traumatizing, but that is not a legitimate excuse or reason why something like this happens.

And now, not only do we have sixteen lives gone, we now have our own troops in danger of retaliation… and, no end in sight for this war.

I will always support US Troops, or any ally of the United States; but, this is a low point for us (gross understatement), and we all really need to hang our heads on this one. To say that US-Afghan Relations are fucked, is also an understatement. We’ve been occupying their country, terrorizing their people, and disrespecting their land for ten years—- and for what? We’re no closer to “catching the Taliban” now then we were then; sure, maybe they’ve been dislocated and pushed back, but they’re not gone yet.

Then on top of that, recently, we urinate on their dead bodies, burn their Qu’ran, and massacre their people in their sleep?

And, we’re sorry?

I can’t.
